During the coronavirus crisis, online videos devoted to offering tips, answering questions, and solving everyday problems have enjoyed growing appeal. Cooking tutorials are especially popular. Keren Cytter’s new video, Chicken on Tostada, humorously engages with this emerging trend. The artist Cytter filmed it in her kitchen in Queens, one of New York’s most demographically diverse districts and one of the boroughs most severely hit by the pandemic. In this video work, produced for the Internet and home use, the actor and singer Laura Hajek together with the artist’s cat, Prickly, prepares chicken tostadas, using ingredients purchased locally.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1977 and now living in New York, the artist and author Keren Cytter explores social issues and the influence of the media through drawings, performances, and video works.
