“New Faces of Culture” with Stephan Balkenhol and Moritz Wesseler

Thursday, Mar 7, 2024, 7.30 pm – 9 pm

Stephan Balkenhol and Moritz Wesseler: The two outstanding minds offer two perspectives on things, each from a different angle. The one, Moritz Wesseler, Director of Fridericianum, is the person who provides the framework that enables art to be exhibited and displayed in the first place. Without it, the other, Stephan Balkenhol, the internationally famous and award-winning sculptor, would not be able to work.

It does, however, bear saying that theirs are not “new faces in culture” in Kassel. Moritz Wesseler has been busy in the city since 2018, although before he could really get started the COVID Pandemic put many a thing on hold. For his part, Stephan Balkenhol graduated from high school here, from the Friedrichsgymnasium, and today, once again, has an apartment and a studio in Kassel. Not to mention his sculpture on the top of the Elisabethkirche bell tower, which is hard to overlook and is known far and wide.

After the conversation between the two, there will be plenty of opportunities to swap ideas over a glass of sparkling water or wine, etc.

Cost: Admission is free. We welcome donations.

Moderation: The conversation will be moderated by Prof. Heidi Möller, University of Kassel, and Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann, a qualified architect and BDA member.

“New Faces in Culture” is a dialog format organized by KulturNetz Kassel e. V. and Kulturtopografie.

We would like to thank KulturNetz Kassel e. V. and the City of Kassel Dept. of Culture for their kind support.
