The Fridericianum cordially invites you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition by Toba Khedoori.
For over twenty-five years, Toba Khedoori has been developing an outstanding yet unusual body of work that oscillates between painting and drawing. As a rule, the starting point for her works are sheets of paper treated with wax that she combines to form monumental picture carriers. On to these, Khedoori executes immensely detailed and extraordinarily precise drawings using graphite and oil paints. Her motifs range from buildings, windows, cinema seats, and fireplaces to branches, grass, clouds, horizon lines, and more. In many works, these motifs are detached from their original context and occupy an expansive, empty pictorial space. Time and place appear not to apply in these realms, allowing certain works to develop moments of abstraction that open up yet another dimension in Khedoori’s art. The Fridericianum presents the first solo exhibition in Germany by the artist, who was born in Sydney in 1964.
