Workshop: “What does the painter need a hammer for?”

Saturday, May 25, 2024, 2 pm – 4 pm

Painting is two-dimensional and flat? Not at all!
Together with artist and art educator Franziska Weygandt the participants of the workshop build their own stretcher frames and follow Ulla Wiggen’s example by experimenting with different surfaces. Everyone is invited to bring old t-shirts and rags to recycle them artistically. Gauze bandages, like those used by Wiggen in her early works, will be utilized as painting bases.
The goal is to explore the experimental, technical and, above all, three-dimensional aspects of painting – as well as to probe questions on how products can be reused, and which qualities lie in the processed materials. Afterwards, the frames can be taken home as a keepsake, but most of all for further experimenting!

Franziska Weygandt works as an artist, art historian, and freelance art educator. In all three areas, her focus lies on accessibility, classism, and queerness. Her knowledge of the practical dimension of artistic work discloses a multifaceted perspective on art.

For adults an children aged 6 and upwards.
